A Bright Eyed Boy
A bright eyed boy of only three said,
"Where are you going daddy, wont you take me?"
Daddy said, "Not today son, I'm not going very far,
just
around the corner to the nearest bar."
With a childs love so innocent,He loves his daddy so.
Around the corner out of sight,
he watched his daddy go.
Hoping his daddy would not forget as often times before,
that
today was his birthday, and today he would be four.
With a familiar step upon the porch he met his daddy at the door,
"Look daddy! I'm getting bigger! Today I was four.
Mommy baked me
a birthday cake, it had candles too!
We didn't eat it all daddy, see, I saved some for you."
He said, "Daddy, stay home today and play with me awhile,
it gets aweful lonesome daddy, as I play on my sandpile."
Daddy says, "Not today son, I'm late by far,
I must hurry around the corner to the nearest bar."
It seems like only yesterday when my son of three said,
"Where are you going daddy, wont you take me?"
But time has fled so swiftly today he said to me,
"Don't you remember dad, today I'm twenty-three?"
Many years have been lost dads hair is silver gray,
with burdened heart and misty eyes he hears his boy say,
"I'll see ya later dad, I'm not going very far,
just around the corner to the nearest bar."
